The Pretender: Parts 1&2

Our scene starts out with the ominous music as usual, the arena erupting with noise. Renee Young already standing in the middle of the ring, wearing a stunning, coral blue dress. Ever since the King of The Ring tournament has started, the atmosphere has changed. What once was a quiet, dull, wrestling crowd was now different. They were excited for everyone that came out to that ring, after an astonishing show last week, they hungered more. Sharks, swarming around prey, that's what they were. Mankind was dressed different this time around. He wore an all brown outfit; some people would mistake for sleepwear. The oversized brown shirt would pass as a night gown for most people, the brown pants matching in comfort and color.

Mauro Ranallo: The crowd is fired up here tonight. Ladies and gentlemen, we're one step closer to round two of the King of the Ring tournament. If this is your first time tuning in tonight, my name is Mauro Ranallo, alongside me is my partner, Corey Graves. We hope to deliver the best show we can to you tonight, we thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to give us your attention.

Corey Graves: Partner in commentary of course, don't make it weird Mauro. Inside the ring, we have the lovely Ms. Renee Young, she seems to be patiently awaiting Mankind who looks much different compared to last week. It looks like he went to goodwill over the weekend, nothing special, it's a start. I just hope the wet hair that he's sporting is from taking a shower. I'm sure our competition doesn't want him stinking up the ring. He looked dirty, plain and simple, dirty last week, when I saw him the locker room. He makes me uneasy, beyond comprehension, there should honestly be security alongside Renee.

Limping his way to the ring steps, he walks up them, making his way into the ring. Walking towards the turnbuckle, most people thought that he was going to climb it to seek cheers. This wasn't the case, he reached down his pants and pulled out a sock, hanging it on the turnbuckle, there was a poorly drawn face on it, drawn on with black sharpie. Mauro and Corey looked with disbelief, Renne's facial expression turning from relatively happy to disgusted in a matter of seconds. No telling how long the sock had been down there, no one knowing why it was even there. Eventually after a couple moments of letting it soak in, he approached Renee. Her voice sounding hesitant, choked up, trying to conduct the interview as a professional as much as she could.

Renee Young: Hum, hello Mankind. I'm just wanting to get your opinion on a couple things, if that's not too much to ask. The rumor mills have been buzzing about you, ever since you won your debut against Marty Scrull. You've been all over the place, a lot of people were saying that you wouldn't be able to do it, that you're washed up. They said that you were too old, should be at a retirement home, not in a wrestling ring. The other's said that you were too crazy to be in the ring, that you could harm some of the younger competition, they cited you as being deranged. How do you expect to prove the naysayers wrong?

Mankind leaned into the microphone, getting closer to Renee than she would like him to. The uneasy feeling's only increasing at this point, He ran his hands through his hair, speaking with his typical wheeze.

Mankind: There once was thing king, he placed a boulder in the middle of the road. He did this as a test, to see if anyone would move it. Some of the wealthiest people at the time, saw this boulder in the road and protested the king, they were mad. He wasn't taking care of the roads, he was in the wrong. A poor man approached the boulder one day, carrying what food he had, he tried to move the boulder to the side of the road. Do what the other men weren't willing to take the time to do. Eventually after struggling thoroughly, he manages to get the boulder moved to the side of the road, exhausting himself in the process. Underneath this boulder, he finds a sack of gold and a note, the note saying that the gold was for the one that moved the boulder. He became the second wealthiest man in the nation that day, second to the king.

Renee interrupted him momentarily, unsure of what all of this mean't.

Renee Young: That's an interesting story and all but can you elaborate? I don't mean to sound rude but the people in the crowd and at home want you to answer the questions, not tell their children a bedtime story.

Mankind was much louder this time around.

Mankind: That poor man, the one that made the extra effort to move the boulder, that's me. I'm the one that's going to go out there and put in the work, it doesn't really matter what the people say about me. I know that i'm old, I ache more daily than some people have in their whole life. I'm not going to give up regardless, I'm in this for the long run. Wrestling is my life, this is all I really know. Am I supposed to go to college? I'm too old, am I supposed to work some miserable, nine to five job, that I hate? That can't happen either, i'm going to win this tournament, i'm not going to sleep until I'm the winner. It doesn't matter if it's Mike Kanellis or Caesar's army. I will say, I'm tired of being classified as deranged. I'm not deranged, everything that i've ever done in my life, I can justify reasonably. Maybe all of you are deranged, i'm the one being punished by you all. Being told that i'm worthless, no good, you people are sick. It doesn't matter what I say to try to reason with you people, it's time for me to prove the world wrong.

Mankind walked away from Renee, not giving her the satisfaction of a long interview.

After the peculiar interview with Renee Young ended, Mankind was shown walking backstage. The camera man tried to keep pace but couldn't. For someone that supposedly had bad ankles, Mankind still booked it. The Camera man eventually losing him, only finding him because of his voice. The sick sinister laugh, the cameraman trying to open the door, kicking and pushing on it several times before stumbling in. Mankind was sitting with the most horrifying smile the man had ever seen.

Mankind: There were two roommates in college, both of them were polar opposites. One of them believed that the earth was created by one man, the other believed that the earth wasn't. Eventually, the man who believes in creation, creates this magnificent solar system model, for a project. The one who disbelieves in his ideology consistently asks him the name of the one that created the model. Insisting that they deserved some kind of recognition. The man who created it, his roommate, said that no one did. The curious one keeps pressing him, wanting to know immediately. Finally, the one that believes in creation asks him, how can he know that for certainty someone had to create that solar system, then still believe that no one created the real thing.

The look on his face went from a smile to a more solemn, serious expression. This was to match the tone which he was speaking in, set the mood. Mankind had a fine line that distinguished when it was time to be serious and when it was okay to let your guard down. This was one of those times to keep his guard up, pulling some of his hair out in the process of playing with it. His sadistic nature, that most would be afraid of, came off as normal to him.

Mankind: We're getting to the part in our journey where the people at home, all over the world, are starting to recognize me. I changed my clothes, hoping that it would make me friendlier, I tried being the definition of what these people call reasonable. They still turned their backs on me, I don't get mad, I get even. You know what happened to the last one that crossed me? He got obliterated, my hand got raised. Some people would say that I shouldn't have finished the match the way I did, screaming and mauling Marty after it. If they only knew what it was like, to be away from something you love for so long. To have the fans mock you throughout the process, to have one mention and make fun of your dead mother. Saying that she gave birth to a disfigured, louse. To say that i'm a louse, is astonishing. All I do is give to you people, this is how I get repaid? I'm going to do the same thing to Mike Kanellis, as I did Marty. Mike Kanellis is the definition of everything I despise, a man with the perfect face, body. Someone who was gave everything, a lovely wife, I sit at home in the dark. He's never had to struggle a day in his life, he will never know what it's like to live off fifty dollars for every two weeks.

The air conditioner kicking on, this gave the cameraman watching insight, on where they were. It sounded as if it was a washing machine, kicking and sputtering before giving the noise of a vacuum cleaner. Breathing fast, heavy and speaking with a choked up voice at first, before returning to his in-pain voice.

Mankind: What do I have to do for you people? Work out constantly and get a six pack, do you some stupid dance? That's not who I am, I came to this company because I thought that there would be people out there, I could reach. It might sound crazy now, i'm trying to help all of you. I want to express betterment and bring a sense of unity, not be cast aside. I am not trash, I am a man, a man with a plan. Determined since day one to get through this journey, I must obtain the top prize. This isn't the title; my biggest priority right now is the golden crown and the silk cape. I was once told that there would be gold at the end of the road one day, so I need not fret about money and riches. I still did, I hated living in my car, for over half my life. I used to play the piano, I used to be a gentle, more loving kind of a man. I had everything ripped apart from me, people told me I was going to be successful. Believe it or not, before I had to wear this mask, people thought that I was cute. That word being a quote from them, not my own cocky expressions. I would never think that i'm better than anyone, God, if there is one, sure knows I'm not.

Mankind got up from his seat and began to walk again, the camera man following him once again, to the best of his ability. They were now in the backstage area closest to the arena, the camera man was much more at ease about the whole thing.

Mankind: This will be my final point before preparing for my match, I would just like to thank you for following me through all of this. My final point comes down to this, I'm going to be a guy that goes out there and works. I'm not doing this for myself, i'm an entertainer, a professional. That's not all I am, i'm a wrestler, wrestling is in my blood. I couldn't go another week without wrestling, the past few weeks, where I had to sit and just watch, that wasn't good. Sure, there were some amazing matches and I'm proud of the one's that did advance, I was even impressed with the one's that failed. This isn't going to be an easy match up by any means. The people here are pushing me harder than I knew possible, every day I feel sick. I could throw up right now, i'm exhausted, my feet hurt. My shoes are terrible, I got sore's all over my feet. On the heel, my skin is peeling off and I can hardly even get them to slip off. They've been stuck to my feet for days. Have you ever tried to take pants off, to change, with your shoes on? It's not easy. Mike Kanellis wouldn't know what it's like, his shoes cost more than my car. I'm not going to let Mike off the hook, this is my match. This is my destiny, I don't think that it's just by chance that I was chosen to come back here, put in the King of The Ring tournament, I was walking through the wood's when I got the call. I almost didn't answer, I didn't have to come here. Even after they called me, I wasn't initially receptive but I am glad I did. Watch me go out there tonight and shock the world.

The long scene duration, finally coming to a close.

OOC: Good luck to whoever plays Mike Kanellis, let's go out there and have a great match.
