Too Lucky

Post by Will »

AJ Styles debated the advantages and disadvantages of being EBWF World Champion. This was probably one of those disadvantages.

Jimmy Fallon: My next guest is the current World Champion of EBWF wrestling! Please welcome, AJ Styles!

Definitely one of the disadvantages. Although he did have a say on where he appeared, Styles hated Jimmy Fallon. He didn't think he was funny and he despised his show. But, of course WrestleMania needed all the promoting it could get. So out he strutted out in front of the cheering audience, carrying the World Championship over his shoulder. He gave Fallon a very firm handshake before taking a seat on the couch.

Jimmy Fallon: Alright, alright. World Champion, huh? You really must be good.

AJ Styles: Yeah. I must be.

Jimmy Fallon: Now, I've had John Cena on my show before--

Styles coughed loud enough to interrupt him.

AJ Styles: Excuse me.

This drew some laughter from the crowd.

Jimmy Fallon: And you're a bit different from him, aren't you?

AJ Styles: Shit, I hope so.

The censors weren't quick enough to bleep out Styles's. Jimmy began to look a little nervous.

Jimmy Fallon: Now, you just became the top dog in EBWF. You beat some big name guys like Chris Jericho and The Rock. Both really well known as some of the best wrestlers alive today. You've got to be feeling like you’re on top of the world, huh?

AJ Styles: Damn right.

The dead pan, lifelessly delivery drew some more chuckles and the host continued to look uncomfortable.

Jimmy Fallon: And that means you’re going to be defending that championship at WrestleMania, the biggest wrestling event of the year against Dolph Ziggler.

AJ Styles: That means I’m gonna be kicking Dolph Ziggler’s ass at the biggest wrestling event of the year.

Fallon glanced off screen. Styles wasn't responding in the way the producers had instructed him to earlier in the day. Vintage AJ Styles.

Jimmy Fallon: Uh, well, if our audience wanted to find you they could just check out Monday night Warfare on A&E, but I'm sure they already knew that. This week’s Warfare you’re scheduled to face off against Chris Sabin. How well do you know your opponent?

AJ Styles: Oh yeah. I know Chris really well. Or at least I used to. He's one of those guys that used to be really good friends with me in TNA. But once we made it to the big leagues I became top dog and as you can see, he didn't. So, maybe he’s just jealous of me. Seems to happen all the time in this business.

Jimmy Fallon: TNA?

AJ Styles: Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. It’s a glorified indy promotion where we got our big start. That's where I met Chris and that's where we became friends. Now he's been going around here, running me down, but that's fine. Beating up an old friend is gonna be tough but I'm at the point in my life where I don't mind. That’s the reason I’m the World Heavyweight Champion.

There was a light applause.

AJ Styles: He told me once upon a time that I lost my heart. How in this business you only get to where you want to be by having heart. He then promised that as long as he was around I wouldn’t make it back to the top. But here I am. At the top. Where are you, Chris? At the bottom, exactly where Jimmy Fallon's career is headed.

Some resounding cheers and laughter.

Jimmy Fallon: I have to let him get away with it because he could beat me up.

Styles gave Fallon a serious stare and he looked terrified. The crowd loved it.

AJ Styles: I’d rather beat up on Chris Sabin this Monday. So Chris, if you’re watching, which I’m sure you are. I thought I would use this show and its huge national audience to remind you that you are a never gonna be at my level.

Jimmy Fallon: I though this guy was your friend?

AJ Styles: Used to be. To be honest with you, if it wasn't for me name dropping him right now he wouldn’t even be relevant.

Jimmy Fallon: There is one burning question I have to ask. Something a lot of people want to know. How many of the EBWF divas have you actually dated?

Laughter came from the studio audience.

AJ Styles: Spoken like a true virgin, Fallon.

That response drew some "Ooooo's" from the audience.

Jimmy Fallon: Well, ladies and gentlemen, tune into Warfare Monday to watch AJ Styles and all of the other EBWF Superstars in action! Thanks for stopping by, AJ.

The band began to play to a commercial. Jimmy offered his hand to Styles and he declined. He gave a sarcastic wave to the crowd before exiting the stage.

The light humming noise made by the treadmill in AJ’s workout room was the only noise coming from his otherwise empty home. Styles was completely in his zone, working his legs with a light 16 mile jog. He enjoyed the peace and quiet of his home. It gave him a comfort that couldn’t be explained. Styles adjusted the speed just a bit faster. With a potentially fast pace match to look forward to on Warfare, he had to make sure his legs were up to the task. In the back of his head, he was racking his brain, thinking about his match with Chris Sabin. Sabin wasn't exactly anything new in the wrestling business but he was a wildcard when it came to big matches. After finally completing his jog he stepped down from the machine. He took his iPhone from treadmill and began recording himself. He then reached for a nearby towel to wipe the sweat from his face.

AJ Styles: From what I understand, this Monday night I’m going to be in a one on one match, against Chris Sabin, one of the guys I defeated inside the Elimination Chamber match. For this here.

After throwing the towel around his neck he reached down and picked up the EBWF World Championship. He got a good shot of the big gold belt once he slung it over his shoulder.

AJ Styles: I’d like to know exactly how many times I’m going to have to kick Chris Sabin’s ass before the brass realizes that he’s just not all that he’s cracked up to be? He went from being one of the most promising young up and comers in this sport to being another flash in the pan, another never was. The morale of the story is that the EBWF is a completely different world than TNA and every other wrestling promotion in the world. We’re the top of the line… we have the best wrestlers, the best production and the best legacy. You don’t just show up around here and win wrestling matches, you have to do more than show up. You have to do more than get lucky. And that’s Chris Sabin’s problem. He's been too lucky. He's had upset wins over Wes Ikeda, The Miz, and Randy Orton. Now, his luck just ran out. I’ve beaten him so many times I've lost count, and I just recently outlasted him inside the Elimination Chamber, so in a sense I’ve already beaten him this Monday. Nevertheless, I’m going to prove it and do what I always do best. Walk down to that ring, kick Sabin the face, and send a quick reminder to Dolph Ziggler as to what he has in store come WrestleMania. This match with Sabin may not be inside Hell in a Cell, but I guarantee you it’s going to look like it was after I’m done with him.

He grinned into the camera and removed the towel from around his neck, tossing it aside.

AJ Styles: I don’t care what promotion we’re wrestling for, what year we’re wrestling in, or what’s on the line. Chris Sabin, you're just not GOOD enough to run with me. You’re not strong enough, Chris. I’ll be able to impose my will on you with little to no problem. You’re not crafty enough, I’ll be able to outsmart you and without a doubt. You might be fast, but then I’m faster. You see Chris, I'm just better. Plain and simple. I’ve done things in this sport that you can’t fathom. I’m responsible for achievements that are so great and so grand, that your own mother couldn't imagine you accomplishing anything near it. Take my word for it Chris, as long as I’m AROUND, this is my promise that YOU'RE not going to get you anywhere NEAR the top of the mountain. Because I'm gonna be sure and knock you down every time you try.

Styles glanced at his championship and waited a few seconds before refocusing his attention on the camera.

AJ Styles: I’m not Wes Ikeda, The Miz, or Randy Orton. I’m AJ Styles. I’m the man. And you’re about to get ran the fuck over on my road to WrestleMania.

After a short pan around the room Styles ended the video and posted it directly to EBWF’s website.
